The Faculty of Education will welcome professor Patricia Gouthro of Mount Saint Vincent University for two special events in February as a part of its Invited Speaker Series.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, Dr. Gouthro will host a lecture titled “Theory for a Troubled World: How Critical Social Theory Can Inform Democratic and Inclusive Learning.” The event will run noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room 2226, Leonard & Dorothy Neal Education Building, with a question-and-answer session to follow.
On Wednesday, Feb. 5, Gouthro will host an arts-based workshop, “Democratic and Inclusive Educators,” from 1 to 3 p.m. in Room 1120, Leonard & Dorothy Neal Education Building. In this interactive session, she will guide participants in creating artifact boxes to explore and reflect on the values of democratic and inclusive educators.
Gouthro is a professor in the graduate studies in lifelong learning program in Mount Saint Vincent’s Faculty of Education, as well as a leading scholar in the field of adult education and lifelong learning. She is a past president of the Canadian Association for the Study of Adult Education and served as an editor of the International Journal of Lifelong Education.
For many years Gouthro has worked collaboratively with her sister Susan Holloway, a member of the UWindsor Faculty of Education, completing three research studies funded through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. Their most recent project focuses on multiliteracies and explores the evolution of critical social theories in the field of adult education/lifelong learning.
The lecture and workshop are open to all of campus. Registration is not required.
