A new cohort of more than 100 Master of Engineering (MEng) students joined the campus community and was officially welcomed during an orientation session on Friday, Jan. 3.
These students come from around the globe to enhance their engineering skills while gaining hands-on experience and a Canadian perspective.
The orientation included a keynote address by the dean of engineering, Bill Van Heyst, who encouraged students to stay on top of their academic work while also seeking balance. He emphasized the importance of community engagement throughout their studies.
Other session highlights included presentations from the engineering wellness counselling staff and the International Student Centre, as well as talks on academic policies, course requirements, and faculty advising.
Darryl Danelon, acting associate dean for professional programs, says the energy is always buzzing at orientation.
“You can feel the mix of excitement and anxiousness in the group,” he says. “Despite the impact of immigration changes, we have approximately 160 new Master of Engineering students joining us who are excited to shape their graduate education experience and it’s an honour to be able to welcome their eager smiles to UWindsor and Canada!”
Following the formal program, attendees had the opportunity to tour the campus, grab a bite to eat, and participate in a game of bingo — a chance to meet new friends and get acquainted with their new home.
