Bring your dance partner — the University Jazz Ensemble and the Honours High School Ensemble, both directed by Robert Fazecash, are holding their Jazz Cabaret concert and dance Thursday, March 28.
Program selections are from the standard tradition, including favourites by Charlie Parker, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Dizzy Gillespie, and Jerry Bock, and popular songs from Broadway musicals. The evening starts in a concert format followed by a collaborative dance set featuring both groups showcasing the talents of these young musicians.
As a veteran educator and trumpeter in Windsor-Detroit, Fazecash is at home in any musical genre. He played principal trumpet in Orchestra Detroit, the Michigan Chamber Orchestra, and the Farmington Area Philharmonic, and has performed with music legends Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin, and Sammy Davis Jr.
Fazecash initiated the Honours Jazz Ensemble in 2017 to provide high school music students the opportunity to perform in a high-calibre jazz-oriented group.
The cabaret begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Alumni Auditorium, CAW Student Centre.
Tickets are $20 with a student rate of $10, available online or at the door. Door sales are debit or credit card only.
