Award-winning digital teachers to inspire at Community of Practice sessions

Winners of the Dr. Alan Wright Award for Exemplary Digital Teaching will share their insights at Community of Practice sessions this semester. Organized by the Office of Open Learning, the sessions are informal gatherings of colleagues who share an interest in digital technology, teaching, and learning that meet around lunchtime.

“We are bringing the Community of Practice sessions back to campus,” says Nobuko Fujita, a learning specialist in the Office of Open Learning. “The past winners of the Dr. Alan Wright Award are truly inspiring, and I hope you will join us as they share some innovative approaches to engage students in disciplinary classrooms.”

The kick-off CoP session is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 16, from 11 a.m. to noon. Tranum Kaur, a 2023 award recipient, will present some of her effective equity, diversity, and inclusion-based digital teaching practices in medical biotechnology, chemistry, and biochemistry. Dr. Kaur and co-presenter Hamed Tehrani are also eCampusOntario Open Rangers, educators supporting the advancement of open education at University of Windsor. They will highlight the power of open educational resources by drawing examples of accessible and equitable resources such as Pressbook and H5P interactives that help students engage and deepen their understanding of complex science and engineering concepts.

Additional award winners will present at upcoming sessions:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 27, noon to 1 p.m. - Gemma Smyth (Law)
  • Tuesday, March 19, noon to 1 p.m. - Chitra Rangan (Science)
  • Tuesday, April 2, noon to 12:50 p.m. - Werner H. Keller (Business)
