In response to the issue of food insecurity among students, the Alumni Association hosted a community drive ’n’ drop event to collect non-perishable donations Tuesday in the Vanier Circler as part of a week-long food drive supporting the Campus Food Pantry run by the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance.
Alumni volunteers were on campus Tuesday morning and evening and helped to collect more than 650 donations from campus and community members.
“As part of our mission to support the lives of students and alumni, the Alumni Association heard the call and knew we had to do something to support the hunger issue on campus,” said Rob Janisse, alumni co-ordinator of special projects.
“In addition to the community drive ’n’ drop event, the Alumni Association committed to matching up to $1,500 in donations received online. This, we hope, will help stock the shelves at the Campus Food Pantry.”
The Alumni Association has raised $1,295 to date and is encouraging the campus community to help meet the target by donating using the online form.
The food drive will run through Friday, Dec. 1; donations can be dropped off at the Alumni Relations office in the Stephen and Vicki Adams Welcome Centre.
