Students in Grades 6 through 12 can spend the upcoming professional activity day taking a Zumba class or playing basketball, volleyball, or pickleball at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
P.A. days send students out of school while teachers upgrade their skills.
The Lancer Centre is hosting the Movement Marathon Youth Edition on Nov. 17 from 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, with proceeds benefiting Family Fuse.
“It’s going to be an exciting and active day,” said Christie Nelson, Family Fuse program manager. “It’s an amazing facility — perfect for an event like this.”
Family Fuse is a non-profit organization that helps Black parents, guardians, and caregivers navigate the education system. Offering free workshops and free one-on-one coaching, Family Fuse hopes to help families inspire the Black leaders of tomorrow.
The Movement Marathon is held annually and is Family Fuse’s main fundraiser. Lancer Recreation has partnered with Family Fuse on the event for three years, last year having the opportunity to hold it in its new state-of-the-art facility.
This is the first time it has been held on a P.A. day.
Snacks from Plentiful Harvest and Summer Fresh will be provided, but participants should bring their own lunches.
