Martin Deck, a veteran of the bookselling business in Canada and a UWindsor alumnus (BA English 1986) will tell stories from his bookselling days and attempt to answer the question “What is a Literary Marketplace?” at a free talk on Thursday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m. in room 53, Chrysler Hall South.
“Bookselling, done well, is a complicated business, but the joy it provides is simple: putting people in touch with the books they want and need is its own reward,” Deck says.
After graduating from university, Deck began working at South Shore Books, Windsor’s premier independent bookstore, which he purchased in 1995. The store closed in 1999 and he was hired as assistant manager of the University Bookstore in 2000. In 2018, after 30 years in the book business, Deck transferred to the Leddy Library where he now works as library assistant in access services.
