Michael H. McCain, executive chairman of the Maple Leaf Foods board, will deliver the inaugural C.D. Howe Institute Lecture at the Odette School of Business on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
McCain’s presentation, entitled “Shared Value Creation and Renewing Commitment to Our Fiduciary Duty” will begin at 10 a.m. in room 104, Odette Building. A 30-minute question-and-answer period will follow and conclude by 11 a.m.
Maple Leaf Foods is one of Canada’s flagship food companies, with sales of $4.5 billion and employs approximately 13,500 people in Canada and the United States.
McCain has devoted his career to the food industry, starting at McCain Foods in the late 1970s, where he held a variety of roles, including president and chief executive officer of McCain Foods USA. He joined Maple Leaf Foods in 1995. He is a director of McCain Capital and Maple Leaf Foods; a member of the Richard Ivey School of Business Advisory Board, the Business Council of Canada, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation; and serves as the honorary chair of the Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security.
He has worked to establish Maple Leaf as a strong and sustainable, values-based company with leading brands and market shares across its businesses and a bold vision for the future. Read more about that vision in his January 2022 Financial Post opinion piece, “We need a new charter for capitalism, and here’s what it should include.”
The event has limited space; students must register to attend by 4 p.m. Oct. 3.
