The Can Am Classic track and field meet saw varsity athletes hit standards to qualify for the national championships, and an alum set a new Canadian record.
Olympian and Lancer alumna Sarah Mitton (BSc 2018) topped her own record in the women’s shot put with an impressive throw of 19.80m, bettering the 19.16m national indoor mark she set last February.
Heading into the weekend’s competition at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse, both Lancer teams were nationally ranked: the men third in the country and the women sixth.
Reaching U Sports qualifying standards were Mandy Brunet in women’s triple jump and Zion Webb in men’s shot put.
