Indigenous Studies logoThe Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences has added a new interdisciplinary minor in Indigenous Studies.

Program offers option of minoring in Indigenous Studies

A new interdisciplinary undergraduate minor in Indigenous Studies will offer courses in Indigenous literature, Aboriginal history, political science, philosophy, as well as an introductory “Indigenous Topics” class.

Students who complete six courses with a minimum average of 60 per cent can earn credit for the minor alongside their major course of study.
In keeping with the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the program was developed by Indigenous faculty members in arts, humanities, and social sciences — all of whom are members of the University of Windsor President’s Indigenous Peoples Scholars.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer our students the ability to expand their knowledge of Indigenous Studies through this timely and important minor program of learning,” said dean Cheryl Collier.

Student Simone Gignac has added a minor in Indigenous Studies to a major in political science.

“When learning about Canada, you cannot dismiss the important role that Indigenous peoples had in shaping where we are today,” Gignac said. “I would highly recommend these courses to fellow UWindsor students.”
