The Progressive Pride Flag, with its rainbow colours joined by stripes representing racialized and transgender communities, represents all those who have come before to bring 2SLGBTQIA+ acceptance to where it is today, says Joyceln Lorito.
A student development specialist in Student Accessibility Services, she spoke as a member of the UWinPride Committee to about 50 people gathered in person Wednesday to celebrate the raising of the flag outside Chrysler Hall Tower.
“Asd we raise this flag, we would like you to think about equality, equity, inclusion, and dignity,” she said. “Though much progress has been made, there is still much work to be done in overcoming discrimination in schools, communities, and other spaces around us.”
The ceremony was also livestreamed on the Student Experience Facebook page.
