Assumption University, the Roman Catholic affiliate to the University of Windsor, celebrated its 165th anniversary Feb. 10, announcing a special celebration of the occasion on June 18.
The event will include a mass and recognition of three honourees:
- St. Clair College president Patricia France will receive a Doctor of Laws honoris causa for contributions to higher education in Windsor-Essex.
- Carl Cohen (BComm 1956), senior counsel at Miller Canfield law firm, will receive the Fr. Eugene Carlisle LeBel Award for service rendered to Assumption University and the community.
- George McMahon (BA 1956), who died in January 2021, will posthumously receive the 165th Anniversary Jubilee Medal in recognition of a half-century of support of and service to Assumption University. Dr. McMahon taught history at the University of Windsor and later served as the University’s first dean of students, assistant vice-president student services, and assistant vice-president alumni affairs. Dorothy McMahon will accept the medal on behalf of her late husband.
The ceremony will be livestreamed from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, with more details to come closer to the event.
