For engineering alumnus Mike Coombs (BASc 2012), participating in the building of the University of Windsor’s new athletic facility is the culmination of a long-time ambition.
Now project manager with EllisDon construction company and general manager of the $73 million Lancer Centre project, he calls his contribution a dream coming to fruition.
“This project definitely hits close to home for me,” Coombs says. “I do recall going to school on campus at the same time that the engineering building (the Ed Lumley Centre for Engineering Innovation) was being built and I always had aspirations of potentially building a capital project on the university campus.”
In a video interview with Vincent Georgie, UWindsor acting associate vice-president, external, Coombs provides insights on what it takes to manage a project of this size and scale, and a sneak peek into some of his favourite spaces that the campus and local communities will enjoy when the Lancer Centre opens.
