Human Resources has added a new information sheet to the Supervisor’s Toolkit that was launched in April to share best practices on an array of topics with individuals in supervisory positions.
Supervisors play a key role in creating the conditions in the work environment for employees to feel safe bringing forward concerns and challenges and feeling supported. This month’s information sheet puts forth some guidelines that supervisors can use for having supportive conversations with their employees.
The document highlights these guidelines:
- Build trust
- Notice changes
- Have the right mindset
- Listen
- Express understanding
- Do not minimize feelings or experiences
- Offer supports
The Department of Human Resources encourages supervisors to view the “Having Supportive Conversations” information sheet on the toolkit website. The next information sheet, scheduled for release next month, will focus on best practices for leading a virtual team and promoting a positive team culture.
