Each year, the University of Windsor Alumni Association recognizes an international student who is active in the International Student Association, has achieved high academic standing, demonstrated dedication and spirit for the International Office and the University, and has acted as a role model for other volunteers.
Because there were two equally deserving International Student Centre volunteers this year, the Alumni Association elected to recognize them both: Ebenezer Victor A. Sam and Sumeet Kaur.
Kaur, a graduating biology student, was excited to hear that she had received the award, thanking the International Student Centre and Alumni Association for acknowledging her work.
“I am sincerely grateful for this honour,” she said. “It has definitely improved my self-belief and encouraged me to work even harder.”
Graduating economics student Sam was also excited to hear the news of the award and tipped his hat to his fellow award recipient.
“As an international student, I know what it feels like to be in a place away from home, but I also know what it feels like to have more than one place I can call home,” he said. “Sumeet and I strived to make the transition easier for all international students, and it feels good to know that our efforts have been recognized."
Beth Oakley, director of the International Student Centre, was delighted to see both students recognized.
“Sumeet and Victor’s contributions to VISA, ISS ,and the International Student Centre have been instrumental in demonstrating leadership and inclusivity for our international students near and far,” said Oakley.
“Their level of campus involvement and hours dedicated to supporting other international students highlight their deep commitments to the international student experience. We have been fortunate to have them as a part of our team.”
