Friends and colleagues of Fred Bartley (LLB 1996), who died Sept. 27, are establishing a memorial tribute at Windsor Law to honour his contributions to the legal profession and to his community.
Bartley’s 20-year career in the Toronto Crown Attorney’s office included his work to help co-found specialized courts dealing with Indigenous people; Bartley was a member of the Serpent River First Nation. He was also involved in education programs to address the unique challenges that face Indigenous peoples in the criminal justice system.
Equally committed to volunteering, Bartley coached soccer and hockey and gave his time to Out of the Cold, a charity program dedicated to providing shelter to the homeless.
A fund to commemorate his legacy will support a scholarship or on-campus tribute at Windsor Law. To make a tax-deductible donation, contact karenm@uwindsor.ca or visit www.uwindsor.ca/donate and specify “Fred Bartley Memorial” when making your gift.
