A nudge from a mentor can make a big difference to even the highest-achieving students, says Simon du Toit.

Co-ordinator of the Outstanding Scholars and leadership development programs in the Student Success and Leadership Centre, he hopes faculty members will encourage promising students to consider applying for a Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University.

“These scholarships represent an investment in a person of remarkable promise, offering them an opportunity that fosters lifelong learning and personal growth,” says Dr. du Toit.

They are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, leadership potential and commitment, and moral character.

Applicants should draft a 1,000-word statement on what makes them a strong candidate, and submit to du Toit no later than Aug. 1.
