With a little help from friends: Trevor Pittman, Erin Armstrong, Christine Turingia, Julie Caron, and Rick Caron are all smiles after raising over $2,500 for education sponsorship at last year’s Tunes for Tanzania.
On Sunday, March 22, faculty, alumni, and students of the School of Creative Arts will be joined by musicians from the Windsor Symphony Orchestra in a concert to benefit the education of vulnerable children in the east African nation of Tanzania.
The proceeds will help send Rispa, a Tanzanian teenager, to high school. Without help from the Windsor community her education will end at Grade 11. The concert will be followed by a “Taste of Tanzania” reception featuring authentic Tanzanian dishes.
This is the sixth annual Tunes for Tanzania event, originally the brainchild of alumna Julie Caron and her former clarinet instructor, Trevor Pittman. Her father, math professor Rick Caron, is a former president of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918), which is co-hosting the concert with the School of Creative Arts.
“Trevor puts together a fantastic program of performers and it’s always a fun event,” Dr. Caron says. “This year we’re also thrilled that Vincent Georgie will be our emcee.”
The concert will start at 2:30 p.m. in the SoCA Armouries Performance Hall, 37 University Ave. E. Tickets are $20 with a student rate of $10, available at Rotary1918.com, from Caron, or at the door.
