A public address and the screening of a film documenting her work are highlights of a visit to Windsor by the woman called “the Jane Goodall of trees,” Nov. 3 and 4.
Diana Beresford-Kroeger is a botanist, biochemist, and author most recently of To Speak for the Trees: My Life’s Journey from Ancient Celtic Wisdom to a Healing Vision of the Forest. Specializing in the chemistry of trees, she conducts much of her work in her own “lab,” a 65-hectare garden filled with endangered tree species outside her home in Merrickville, Ontario.
Beresford-Kroeger will discuss recent scientific discoveries that can play an important role in protecting the environment on Sunday, Nov. 3, at St. Clair College’s Student Life Centre, located at 2000 Talbot Rd. Among the local officials who will extend a welcome is Arop Plaek Deng, a vice-president of the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Following her address, she will sign copies of her book, offered for purchase on site. Admission is $10; $5 for students. Tickets are available in Essex Hall, room 388-5, or online through Eventbrite.
On Monday, Nov. 4, Beresford-Kroeger will introduce the documentary Call of the Forest: the Forgotten Wisdom of Trees, for a screening at the Windsor International Film Festival, at 3:40 p.m. in the Capitol Kelly Theatre.
The visit has been organized by the Pelee Island Bird Observatory. Find more details on its website.
