Tomi Xhelili comes from a musical family. His father, a well-known clarinettist in Xhelili’s native Albania, has been his role model and was his first clarinet teacher.

Xhelili earned a master of fine arts degree as a clarinet major from the University of Arts in Tirana in 2016, and took up studies in the UWindsor bachelor of music program in January 2019.

He is the featured soloist for a performance of Artie Shaw’s Concerto for Clarinet during the University Wind Ensemble’s spring concert Sunday, April 7, at the Capitol Theatre.

Under the direction of Nicholas Papador assisted by student Matt Lepain, the ensemble will present a program of classic and contemporary compositions. The show gets underway at 7:30 p.m. on the Pentastar stage at 121 University Ave. W.
