Relay for Life looking for boost to reach finish line

The UWindsor Relay for Life ran March 22 in the CAW Student Centre, but organizers are calling on the campus community to help push its fundraising totals across the finish line.

More than 300 students participated in the event, which raised about $48,500 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society and its programs of research, services, and advocacy — just shy of its goal of $50,000.

Education major Michael Keating lost his mother to cancer when he was in high school. His relay team collected over $4,600 to top the leaderboard.

“It is so important to do anything I can to ensure others do not have to go through what I did,” Keating told participants in the fundraiser. “Relay for Life gave me an opportunity to raise money for cancer research and services.”

The campaign can still reach its goal, since tallies will continue for 30 days after the event. To make a contribution, visit www.relayforlife.ca/uwindsor.
