Filmmaker and video artist Johan Grimonprez’s work engages film, history, culture, society, and politics.
Now Windsor audiences will have a chance to engage with the Belgian artist; his free public presentation “All Memory is Theft” is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in the Performance Hall, SoCA Armouries.
The event is hosted by the Humanities Research Group as part of its Martin Wesley Lecture Series, in conjunction with the solo exhibition Dialogues at the Art Gallery of Windsor.
Curator Jaclyn Meloche says Grimonprez contemplates the global boundaries between reality and representation.
“Through a cinematic lens, he provokes daring conversations that challenge notions of globalization, and the political relationships between people and their governments on the big screen,” she says.
A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture.
