Panel to discuss sanctuary for refugees

“Access without Fear” policies ensure access to municipal services open to all, enabling undocumented immigrants to meet basic needs without fear of deportation or detention.

A panel will discuss how these programs work, possible benefits, and the difficulties associated with their implementation, at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in the Moot Court’s left wing, Ron W. Ianni Faculty of Law Building.

Organized by the Windsor chapter of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers and moderated by professor Gemma Smyth, the event will feature:

  • criminology professor Graham Hudson of Ryerson University;
  • Loly Rico, co-director of Toronto’s FCJ Refugee Centre; and
  • Jai Sahak, diversity and community engagement co-ordinator for the municipality of Ajax.
