In a professional career of more than 50 years, UWindsor engineering grad Norm Becker (BASc 1967, PhD 1970) has inspired hundreds of students, including mentoring dozens as an adjunct professor of civil and environmental engineering.
“Norm is a true role model who instills confidence and integrity in our students and, while succeeding in the engineering profession, has given back so much to the community,” says professor Nihar Biswas.
Dr. Becker founded the Becker Engineering Group of consulting companies and served as a councillor with Professional Engineers Ontario, where he developed an action plan to mobilize its members to donate their services to help charities, service clubs, and non-profit organizations implement community projects.
He even brought and sometimes paid out of his own pocket for engineering students to join him on his pro bono projects across the country and in rural China.
Read a profile of Becker on the Windsor Engineering website. The full article, entitled “The Humanitarian Engineer,” is featured in the 2018 issue of the Windsor Engineering magazine (WE).
