The UWindsor Visual Arts and the Built Environment (VABE) program is a sponsor of a presentation Wednesday by co-founders of Public Work, a Toronto-based urban design and landscape architecture studio focused on the intelligent evolution of the contemporary city.
Marc Ryan and Adam Nicklin will discuss their work as part of the winter lecture series at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture, January 24 at 5:30 p.m. The school is located in Detroit at 4001 West McNichols Road.
Their firm is leading a redesign project for the city’s Capitol Park Historic District, bounded by Clifford Street, Woodward and Michigan avenues, and Washington Boulevard. The area includes buildings designed by renowned architects such as Albert Kahn (the Griswold Building) and John Donaldson (the David Stott Building), as well as the eponymous park.
The studio cites its aim as to producing transformative works that invigorate the public realm, optimizing and enhancing the performance of urban and natural systems, and supporting public life by adding new layers of experience to the city.
