A group of students will spend the next few nights experiencing homelessness as a way to understand the issue and support local people in this situation.
Members of the UWindsor chapter of the Pi Lambda Phi fraternity will construct a shelter outside the Leddy Library entirely from discarded materials — cardboard, tarps, twine, wooden pallets. They will live in it from Thursday to Saturday, soliciting donations of clothing, canned goods, and money to benefit the Downtown Mission.
“We have braved snow, rain, and storms in years past but always know it is a small hardship compared to those faced by the less-fortunate every day,” says chapter president Taylan Osei.
He calls Homeless for the Homeless the fraternity’s most successful on-campus philanthropic event, and says the group is hoping to raise at least $1,500 this year.
