UWindsor students and grads cleaned up at the Windsor-Walkerville Fringe Festival, walking away with four of five awards handed out at its closing ceremonies Sunday.

The festival featured 72 performances of 12 productions over nine days.

Eric Branget (BFA 2016) won the audience choice award for his one-man show Life of Len, and also received the “Spirit of Fringe” trophy for his participation in the festival — attending other shows to offer support and walking the street to drum up interest in the festival.

Tamlynn Bryson (BFA 2015) and Kyle Kimmerly (BFA 2015) won best new script for their work on Bedwetter, and current acting students Averey Meloche and Sean Williams were recognized as most innovative performance for their commedia dell’arte approach to The Steps to Sex-cess.

Williams said he was “honoured” by the recognition.

“Receiving this award proves to me that commedia dell’arte is a timeless art form, a notion we set out to prove at the beginning of our journey with this show,” he said. “The Windsor-Walkerville Fringe Festival provides a fantastic platform for aspiring artists to experiment with the craft of performance.”

The only award unclaimed by University affiliates was “Best of Fringe,” which went to The Old Hag and the Bag, a theatrical therapeutic clowning comedy by a troupe from Israel.
