A concert Saturday, May 27, in Assumption Hall’s Heritage Auditorium will look to the past and to the future, with a program of new works celebrating the histories of a parish, a city and a country.

Orchestra Breva will premiere the Assumption Mass, a new composition for choir, orchestra and soloists by Evan Tanovich, a Grade 11 student at Assumption College High School.

Tanovich says the 30-minute work was inspired by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Coronation Mass. He has organized Saturday’s concert, which will begin at 7 p.m., as part of a school project.

The event will also feature works by UWindsor alumnus Henry Boon (BMus 1973, B.Ed 1974), music professor emeritus Paul McIntyre, and president Alan Wildeman, as well as lesser-known composers Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, and Gabriel Fauré.

The concert marks several anniversaries: Assumption’s 250th, Canada’s 150th, and Windsor’s 125th. Admission is by donation, with proceeds directed to student scholarships.
