The ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter may be irrational, but that doesn’t mean it’s illogical to enjoy Pi Day. Students crowded the second-floor lounge in Essex Hall on Tuesday to partake in a slice of sweet pie, courtesy of the Science Society.

“It’s Pi Day because it’s March 14 — 3.14,” said the society’s vice-president finance Scott Pittl.

He said the student group had bought 50 pies from Sunrise Bakery, but expected the 400 resulting slices, with fillings from apple to key lime, to go fast: “Before we even had everything cut, we had a line out the door.”

Kaity Greco, a first-year bio-med major, said she appreciated the gesture.

“I think it was a great idea,” she enthused between bites of pastry. “It brought everybody together to celebrate!”
