The Lancer men’s hockey team is looking to even up its best-of-three series against the York Lions after losing the first game 5-3 Wednesday at South Windsor Arena. Justice Dundas, Blake Blondeel and Konnor Haas accounted for Windsor’s goals. Read a game summary at goLancers.ca.
The squads will face off in game two of the Ontario University Athletics west conference finals Friday in Toronto. Game three, if necessary, is scheduled for the Canlan Ice Centre on Saturday, March 4. Puck drop is for 7 p.m. both days; www.oua.tv will webcast the games live.
The winner of this series will advance to the Queen’s Cup finals and secure a spot in the U Sports national championship tournament, while the other team will compete in the OUA bronze medal game for the conference’s third spot at the national championships.
In other Lancer news, Ontario University Athletics has selected fourth-year guard Mike Rocca of men’s basketball as a second-team all-star. Rocca led Windsor through the season with an average of 16.8 points per game. Read the full story, “Rocca named OUA all-star.”
The Lancer women’s basketball team will open its 10th consecutive appearance in the OUA Final Four tournament Friday, taking on the top-seeded Queen’s Gaels in Kingston. Game time is 6 p.m. The medal games are Saturday — 6 p.m. for the bronze and 8 p.m. for the gold. Catch the action on www.oua.tv.
