Reading Week is a time to get caught up on studies and also enjoy a break, but students must take care to relax responsibly, says Judi Wilson, health promotion nurse in Student Health Services.
“You get a vacation, but hazards don’t,” says Wilson. “Too often students return from holiday suffering from the consequences of unsafe behaviours. We just want to remind them that proper self-care starts with respecting themselves and protecting themselves.”
While the specific issues may change depending on whether students are planning to stay home, visit the tropics, or try winter sports, common themes emerge.
“No matter where you are, staying healthy requires getting enough sleep, exercise, and eating well,” she says.
