Lancer athletes will shed the blue and gold in favour of a different colour Saturday — donning pink to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
The weekend’s varsity action will open Friday with basketball at the St. Denis Centre and men’s hockey at South Windsor Arena.
Nationally-ranked Carleton Ravens basketball teams, currently fourth among women and first among men, will prove a test for the Lancers. The seventh-ranked Windsor women will tip off at 6 p.m. The men will play at 8 p.m.
Men’s hockey will play its final home game of the regular season at 7:30 p.m. Friday against the Brock Badgers. The squad will honour its graduating seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
Saturday’s “Get Their Pink On” events will start with Lancer volleyball teams hosting the McMaster Marauders at the St. Denis Centre. The women will play at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3 p.m.
The Dennis Fairall fieldhouse will then switch over to basketball, with a doubleheader against the Ottawa Gee Gees; game time is 6 p.m. for the women and 8 p.m. for the men.
Athletics staff will be on hand for all four contests, selling pink gear to benefit breast cancer research: T-shirts for $10, tote bags for $5 and toques for $8, with proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Volleyball teams are back on the court Sunday to host the Brock Badgers. The women will play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
