An informal meet-and-greet Wednesday, January 20, will provide an opportunity to socialize with members of the Feminist Research Group.
The multidisciplinary group of graduate and undergraduate students, alumni, and faculty at the University of Windsor has, for the past 15 years, been committed to feminist and anti-oppressive works and research, says organizer Michelle Krieger, a doctoral candidate in applied social psychology. Members seek to develop and maintain a feminist community that welcomes, encourages, validates and challenges its members in an environment that promotes personal and professional networking.
“Becoming involved in the FRG is an amazing opportunity to meet new people, discuss feminist issues, be exposed to new ideas, and develop professionally,” Krieger says.
Wednesday’s event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Green Bean Café, 2320 Wyandotte Street West. It will feature a screening of the film Tough Guise 2, an exploration of violence, manhood and American culture. Cultural theorist Jackson Katz examines mass shootings, day-to-day gun violence, violence against women, bullying, gay-bashing, and American militarism against the backdrop of a culture that has normalized violent and regressive forms of masculinity.
