Melissa Grass has seen firsthand the value of the Summit Centre for Preschool Children with Autism. That’s why the third-year disability studies and psychology major is helping to organize a dinner this week to raise money for its work.
“I have a child who has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder,” says Grass, president of the campus club Raising Autism Awareness. “Each student who attends the Summit Centre has a one-on-one therapy setting and programs geared to each child, which can cost a lot of money.”
The second annual Light It Up Blue charity dinner is set for Thursday, April 2— World Autism Awareness Day. It start at 5 p.m. at Fogolar Furlan Windsor, 1800 North Service Road.
Besides an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner with rolls, salad and coffee, the event promises desserts, raffles and children’s activities. Admission is $20, with a student rate of $15. For tickets, contact Grass at grassm@uwindsor.ca or 519-819-4414.
