Lancer forward named men’s hockey MVP

Canadian Interuniversity Sport awarded Lancer centre Spencer Pommells its Senator Joseph A. Sullivan Trophy as player of the year in men’s hockey Wednesday during a gala in Halifax in advance of tonight’s start to the University Cup championship tournament.

Pommells established himself as one of the premier players in CIS this season. The fourth-year forward had an explosive campaign as he racked up 50 points in 27 league games, including 16 goals and a CIS-leading 34 assists, to win the national scoring race by eight points.

In addition to winning the Sullivan Trophy, he was named a first-team all-Canadian and a first-team all-star in Ontario University Athletics West Division.

Head coach Kevin Hamlin said he is proud of Pommells’ many contributions to the program.

“From the time he arrived in Windsor four years ago, Spencer has worked extremely hard and has developed into one of the premier players in CIS,” he said. “His tremendous play this year has been a big part of our team’s success.”

Lancer defenceman Kenny Bradford was named a second-team all-Canadian. Read the full story at goLancers.ca.
