The Lancer men’s hockey team will close out its regular season at home this weekend, with games at South Windsor Arena against the Ryerson Rams on Friday and the Brock Badgers on Saturday. Both games start at 7:30 p.m.
The squad is currently ranked seventh in Canadian Interuniversity Sport and sits atop the Ontario University Athletics west division standings. Saturday’s game is Senior’s Night, and fans will have a chance to show their appreciation for graduating players in a ceremony prior to the game. Honorees include Matt Beaudoin, Paul Bezzo, Matt Murphy, Drew Palmer, Spencer Pommells, Isak Quakenbush, Chad Shepley, and Parker Van Buskirk.
All other varsity action takes place away from home, with basketball teams heading north to play the Laurentian Voyageurs on Friday and the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, volleyball teams also at Nipissing Saturday and playing the York Lions on Sunday, women’s hockey at Brock on Saturday and Guelph on Sunday, and track and field athletes competing in the Wide Track Classic in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Impact player: Lancer Bree Polci scored the winning goal for Team Canada in a 7-1 victory over Kazakhstan to open women’s hockey at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Granada, Spain, on Wednesday. Read the full story at goLancers.ca.
The squad’s next action will come Sunday against Russia. Polci and Windsor teammate Jenny MacKnight traded in their blue and gold jerseys for red and white to represent Canada in the international university games.
