Men’s hockey team sweeps RMC to remain undefeated

The Lancer men’s hockey team defeated the Paladins of Royal Military College in games Friday and Saturday in South Windsor Arena to extend its winning streak. At 9-0-0, Windsor is the only team in Canadian Interuniversity Sport still undefeated at this point in the season.

Kenny Bradford scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Lancers to a 7-2 victory Saturday. Eric Noel had a goal and three assists; Daulton Siwak, Kyle Hope and Isak Quakenbush were the other Windsor goalscorers.

Matt Beaudoin had two goals—one short-handed—and Ryan Green added a single in Friday’s 3-1 win. The team will play on the road next weekend, with games against the Ryerson Rams and Toronto Varsity Blues.

The women’s hockey team defeated the Warriors in Waterloo on Saturday, 5-3. Candice Chevalier notched two majors for the blue and gold; Jenny MacKnight, Erinn Noseworthy and Larissa Borowiec completed Windsor’s scoring. The Laurier Golden Hawks, ranked seventh in the country, handed the Lancers their first regulation defeat of the season, 4-1 Sunday. Candace Kourounis scored Windsor’s lone goal. The women’s volleyball team salvaged its first weekend at home with a Saturday sweep of Waterloo (25-19, 25-22, 25-15) after a five-set loss Friday to the Guelph Gryphons (19-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-27, 11-15). Shannon Dean led Windsor with 20 kills on Friday and nine Saturday; rookie Carleigh Bailey had eight kills and 21 digs against the Warriors. The Lancers will play their next three matches in the St. Denis Centre, starting with a rare weeknight game Thursday at 6 p.m. against the Western Mustangs.

The men’s volleyball team lost both of its games on the weekend in close 3-2 decisions, to Guelph on Friday (23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 24-26, 12-15) and to Waterloo on Saturday (20-25, 28-26, 25-22, 23-25, 15-17). The squad will return to the court on Thursday to host Western at 8 p.m.

The Lancer football season came to an end Saturday as the team fell 46-29 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees in an Ontario University Athletics quarter-final on Alumni Field. Windsor scored two touchdowns on defense, as defensive backs Austin Crumb and Matt Gayer both recovered fumbles and ran the ball to the end zone—Crumb 78 yards and Gayer 70 yards. Varsity basketball action will get underway Wednesday, as both women’s and men’s teams travel to London to take on the Western Mustangs. They will tip off against Guelph to open their home seasons Saturday at the St. Denis Centre. The women, four-time national champions, will play at 6 p.m., while the men, currently ranked fifth in Canadian Interuniversity Sport, will play at 8 p.m.
