Local First Nations, Métis and Inuit youth are exploring traditional and modern media during the Turtle Island Summer Arts Camp, continuing through July 25.

“The participants have been very excited to create their own works,” says Danielle Handsor, outreach coordinator for the UWindsor Aboriginal Education Centre. “Since the camp opened July 2, some of the activities have included making traditional hand drums, pyrography, wood tiling, a t-shirt quilt and energy painting.”

Campers will display some of their artworks in a public exhibition on Thursday, July 17, as part of the City of Windsor’s Open Space Project. The event runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. along the riverfront.
