It takes a special personality to be a sports mascot, says Elisa Mitton.
Sports information coordinator for the athletics department, she is seeking a student to act as Winston, chivalrous mascot of Lancer varsity teams.
“It’s not for everyone. You have to be warm and engaging without using your voice or your face,” says Mitton. “It takes a lot of creativity.”
She says Winston promotes school spirit and must represent the highest ideals of the University of Windsor.
“When you put on that costume, you are the face of the Lancers. There is a lot of personal interaction with fans and the public; it’s a big responsibility.”
Even so, Mitton says, the number one job requirement is the desire to have fun. The deadline for applications is August 1. Find a detailed job posting at goLancers.ca.
