United Way does not just support and invest in community initiatives, says Our West End founder Fabio Costante—it engages and empowers residents.
“United Way has been a tremendous help for the Our West End initiative,” says Costante, a three–time UWindsor grad (BComm 2007, MBA 2008, JD 2013). “More particularly, United Way has helped support the initiation of a Residents Roundtable, a Residents Parks Committee and has supported various town halls, graffiti and neighbourhood clean-up events, as well as our West Fest event planned for September.”
Creating thriving neighbourhoods is one of the charity’s three focus areas. Its work with Our West End has promoted resident engagement, resulting in a plan to prevent crime and reduce blight. The strategy produced 385 individuals committing a total of more than 6,400 volunteer hours in support of neighbourhood renewal last year, more than double the year previous.
UWindsor faculty and staff have received the e-Pledge appeal on behalf of the campus fundraising campaign for United Way. Contributors have a chance to be entered into a raffle that offers a number of great prizes. Find out more on the campaign website.
