Pearl Van Geest draws upon feminist artists and theorists to inform and contextualize her work. A master of fine arts candidate, she will display paintings in an exhibition titled Slip and Tension, May 10 to 17 at SB Contemporary Art and concurrently at the SoVA Gallery, Lebel Building.
“I call attention to the drips, spills and extrusions of paint and other materials that are produced intentionally or as the by-products of various actions undertaken in the process of making my paintings,” says Van Geest. “My work is about what cannot be contained by the body, the excess that slips out regardless of premeditation and calculation.”
A closing reception will celebrate the show Saturday, May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. SB Contemporary Art is located at 1017 Church Street.
