Breakfast workshop to consider cross-border trade in multilateral context

On February 4, 2011, the Canada’s prime minister and the president of the United States announced two initiatives:

  • Beyond the Border, which seeks to ensure Canada and the US work together to address security threats effectively while facilitating trade across their shared border; and
  • the establishment of the Regulatory Cooperation Council to align regulatory approaches in the two countries to protect health, safety and the environment while reducing costs for cross-border businesses.

A breakfast workshop on Tuesday, May 6, will address issues related to both initiatives and consider them in a multilateral context.

Hosted by the Cross-Border Institute and the Faculty of Law, “Crossing Borders: Trade Facilitation and Regulatory Cooperation” will feature speaker Nancy Faraday-Smith, advisor to the Border Implementation Team, Privy Council Office.

She will provide an overview of the Beyond the Border action plan, including the status of its implementation, priorities for the future, and what it all means for southern Ontario.

The event runs 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, 1855 Huron Church Road. Admission is free and a light breakfast.
