UWindsor visual arts grad Vince Allen Kogut (BFA 2013) is one of more than a dozen artists from around the world whose work make up Border Cultures: Part Two (work, labour), an exhibit at the Art Gallery of Windsor through April 13.

According to curator Srimoyee Mitra, the exhibition centres around the geographic, political and socio-economic context of the Windsor-Detroit region. The selected works examine the changing labour market in globalized economies and the in-between space of the borderlands.

Mitra says the show draws inspiration from the history of social struggles in the region.

“The artists examine these histories that have crossed boundaries and brought people together, highlighting the strategies used by them to survive and thrive,” she says.

Kogut’s contribution “…and they remained steadfast” is a life-sized portrait in pastel and charcoal of his mother.

The show remains on display on the gallery’s second floor through April 13. The Art Gallery of Windsor is located at 401 Riverside Drive West and is open free to the public Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
