Winning round-trip travel anywhere Porter Airlines flies will allow a pair of UWindsor students to pursue their dream: documenting a trip to the national university athletics tournament.
Milos Savic and Hayden Freker won the UWindsor Experience 50th Anniversary Video Contest with their entry “Film on Filming,” a light-hearted cross-genre exploration of the opportunities afforded students here (click here to view their winning entry).
“We went through so many ideas, looking for something that would be entertaining to watch,” said Savic, a third-year film student. “We wanted to produce a film that would be simple to make but still be good.”
Freker, a long-time friend of Savic and a third-year business major, said the pair plan to use their prize—two free flights on Porter Airlines—to follow Savic’s journey to compete as a pole vaulter in the Canadian Interuniversity Sports championship.
“I think it’s an excellent opportunity to be able to make a documentary,” Freker said. “The experience we will get out of it is much better than getting a material prize.”
Contest organizer Alisa Giroux-Souilliere, social media coordinator in the Office of Public Affairs and Communications, praised the winners for their creative approach.
“Rather than answering a question, they chose to tell a story,” she said.
Giroux-Souilliere said the video contest, part of the year-long celebrations of the University’s 50th anniversary, proved very successful in garnering interest, generating more than 10,000 views.
