Facial hair isn’t the only thing that grows during the Movember campaign. According to Franco Magliaro, captain of a team at the Leddy Library, the annual effort to raise awareness and funds in support of men’s health issues also builds a sense of camaraderie.
“Joining in a team effort like this helps us get to know our colleagues around the library,” he said Thursday as members gathered for a “Before” photo. “Plus you get to see some funny moustaches.”
The annual event invites men to spend the month growing their moustaches and seeking sponsorships to benefit programs that combat prostate and testicular cancer and mental health challenges.
Dan Edelstein, an academic data learning specialist, doesn’t hold out much hope for a luxuriant tea-strainer.
“I have to shave every day, but it never really fills in,” he said. “I’m expecting to produce a pretty sad moustache.”
