Jill Andrew’s personal journey as a fierce and fabulous fat Black feminist informs her work as founder of the Bite Me! Toronto International Body Image Film and Arts Festival and FatinTheCity.com, a blog challenging representations of female bodies.

She will discuss that work and encourage others to consider how the intersections of gender, race, class and appearance can affect lives in a free public lecture entitled “FATshion: Making the (In)visible Fat Body Visible,” at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 22, in room 365, Dillon Hall.

Andrew, a PhD candidate at York University, will explore some of the structural inequities faced by fat female consumers and how this impacts their shopping experiences. This event is part of the Distinguished Visitors in Women’s Studies series.
