Dunking her hand in ice water was freezing, and then in melted wax was boiling, but it was worth it to receive a cast of her hand forming a “W” for Windsor, first-year political science student Katherine Lambruzzo said Thursday during Welcome Week celebrations.

“I really enjoyed making this sculpture,” she said. “Now to see how long it lasts!”

Another first-year political science major, Sania Chaudhari, said she would have been lost without guidance from her older sister Saher, a senior studying psychology.

“Saher showed me how to use the online systems like CLEW,” she said. “I didn’t know anything about them.”

Having finished the first class of her UWindsor career, Sania Chaudhari relaxed under the sun in the Student Courtyard.

“So far, my week has been going pretty well,” she said.

Windsor Welcome Week continues today with a barbecue lunch for transfer students and the Bring Your Own Toga party this evening.

Saturday is Shine Day, which sees students fan across the city to raise money for the fight against cystic fibrosis; international students will hold a special session to orient them to Canada’s culture and climate; and Lancer soccer will host the Laurier Golden Hawks for a pair of games on Alumni Field—the women play at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.
