Math professor Rick Caron honoured as one of Ontario’s top university educators

UWindsor mathematics professor Rick Caron has been named one of Ontario’s most outstanding university teachers by the Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations. Dr. Caron, a former dean of science, will receive an OCUFA Teaching Award at a September 28 ceremony in Toronto.

“As one colleague said, Professor Caron is a ‘rare breed’,” said the association’s president, Kate Lawson. “Not only is he an exceptional teacher, but he is also a leader in and out of the classroom. He inspires students and fellow faculty members alike, and we are very pleased to recognize him with an OCUFA Teaching Award.”

The five other recipients of the award this year are: Catherine Bruce, associate professor in the School of Education and Professional Learning at Trent University; Brent E. Faught, professor of epidemiology in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at Brock University; Lorraine Janzen Kooistra, professor of English in the Faculty of Arts at Ryerson University; Stephen G.A. Pitel, associate professor in the Faculty of Law at Western University; and Susan Vajorczki, professor in the School of Geography and Earth Sciences at McMaster University.

“Every day, Ontario’s professors make incredible things happen in our classrooms and labs,” said Lawson. “This year’s winners exemplify the commitment, passion, and dedication to student success that produce outstanding learning across the province.”
