Lancer football fans celebrate record-setting season opener

Lancer football set a new team record Sunday, racking up 78 points to just 11 for Waterloo to open the 2013 season on Alumni Field.

Quarterback Austin Kennedy completed six touchdown passes, including three to Evan Pszczonak, both tying Lancer single-game records. Kennedy made 24 of his 28 passing attempts for 335 yards before resting in the fourth quarter with the game well in hand. He added 108 yards rushing, including a first-quarter touchdown.

Rookie Beau Lumley picked up 87 yards on seven catches and added another 67 in punt and kick-off returns. Frank Renaud led Windsor’s defense with nine solo tackles.

The Lancers’ next game comes Labour Day Monday, September 2, when they head to Guelph to battle the Gryphons. The game is set for a 1 p.m. kick-off.

Windsor is back at home on Saturday, September 14, to welcome the Carleton Ravens for a 1 p.m. kick-off. The following weekend is the University of Windsor’s 50th Anniversary Celebration; as part of the festivities the Lancers will host the Toronto Varsity Blues for a 7 p.m. start on Saturday, September 21.
