Olympic Day promises fun for international students

A day of Olympic competition planned for the St. Denis Centre on Sunday, June 23, isn’t about winning medals, says Sophie Kargl.

The third-year sport management student, a marketing intern with Campus Recreation, is helping to organize the event. Supported by a grant from the Strategic Priority Fund, it is timed to coincide with National Olympic Day and will feature such fun events as relay races and obstacle courses.

“We want to make sure the participants enjoy themselves,” Kargl says. “And I think the most fun is getting to know people; it’s not really about who is going to win.”

The list of competitions to date includes 100- and 200-metre races, an obstacle course, relay races, a dress-and-go race, and a basketball free-throw contest. Scheduled to run noon to 4 p.m., the day is aimed at international students but open to all students.
